Sabbath Rest Bible Study will be a layperson-led bible study open to anyone who would like to join. We will meet on Sundays, before the 10:30 AM service. The goal is to create a relaxed environment where we can learn about the Word, share our thoughts and ideas, then use what we discover in our real-world lives.
To get us off the ground we will start with a study of the Gospel of Matthew. We will follow a study guide written by Nicholas Thomas Wright (N. T. Wright), an English New Testament scholar and Anglican bishop (bishop of Durham, 2003 to 2010). Fr. Jonny was tutored by bishop Wright at Oxford University.
The study guide, Matthew, is available for purchase on Amazon in print or for Kindle. Future studies will be determined by the group. Here is a link to the study guide: https://a.co/d/7nBMI8l
Hopefully we will get a steady group of people who are interested in pursuing a deeper understanding of the bible’s teachings. We want to keep this a relaxed group, so please feel free to bring along any portable activities that help you to unwind.
According to an article in Focus Labs (medium.com/@get-focused), “When we participate in activities that require manual dexterity and coordination, such as coloring or knitting, multiple areas of our brain light up. A study conducted at Drexel University found that when participants engaged in art-making activities like drawing or pottery, there was increased connectivity between different regions of the brain associated with attention span and problem-solving skills. This enhanced connectivity leads to improved cognitive function overall.” So, bring along your adult coloring books, knitting, fidget toys, anything that helps to free your mind so we can fill it with the Good Word.
